The Haynes Family. In 1915, Paul M. Haynes (Granddad), began as a teenager helping his step-father, Emerson Moses, drill wells in the southern hills of West Virginia. Paul’s uncles, Jud and Frank, were also well drillers in that area.
In those days they used a steam-powered, cable well drilling machine. Throughout his life, Granddad worked for various drilling companies drilling natural gas and water wells. By 1966, Tom, who was helping with with the well drilling business for several years, had taken a job in the U. S. Postal Service, and his Brother Paul A. Haynes (one of Paul & Ruth’s 5 sons, pictured below) was eager to join the family business of well drilling. Although Paul had served four years in the U. S. Navy (1958-62), and was employed at the Radford Arsenal as an electronics technician, his desire was to work out-of-doors and pursue his creative interests as an entrepreneur. This was the passing of the torch from the first generation to the second generation of well-drillers in the Haynes family. Father and son worked together for the next ten years, and in 1974 Granddad retired. Paul A Haynes continued in the well drilling business for over 50 years and trained all of his five children in various aspects of the business. Two went on to make careers in the well industry. Our Grandmother Ruth often rehearsed that our good name and heritage could lead each family member to their fullest and best potential. And, now, carrying on today as a water systems provider and general contractor in both states of the HAYNES FAMILY heritage. Today, Dallas M. Haynes owns and operates the company and employees his son, Matthew Haynes, and other family members in the business. |
